Silly Cat! Tricks are for kids!

Purdy's Busted

This is a painting i did of my cat Oliver, AKA Purdy.  He is a really sneaky, determined cat.  His name became Purdy because all he odes is purr.  Waking you up in the middle of the night wanting you to pet him.  Or meowing really load following you until he gets a treat.  We give him one can food a day in the morning and sometimes if we ignore him before bed and forget to give him a treat he will knock off his food bowl for the dog to eat it all!  Guess he thinks if it's all gone we will have to eventually fed it to him.  My boys like to call him a smooth criminal because he is very sneaky about things.  You think he is stretching and out comes the paw to steal a bite of chicken from you.  I will have to get it on video one day because it's certainly a must see!

I have been painting lots of people's animals with them in their own home and I finally decided this year to paint one for myself.  Not many people would believe me he really did this and I just so happened to have the camera in my hand and captured it!  We have even tried putting a spoon there so he can't get to it but he is just too smart for and nothing can keep him from getting in there to tear open the bag of kitty treats!

Sometimes I Wish

You will never guess where I got this idea for this painting.  I have 4 boys and babysit many others.  Well our bathroom was smelling really bad and no matter how much bleach I used it never seem to just go away.  I blamed all the boys for peeing on the floor.  It was even wet running down the toilet!  It was getting worse, floor looking black.  To find out for months we had a leaky toilet!!  It was running from the tank down the back of the toilet.  We had to replace everything!  Toilet, floor, paint....  But I'm not complaining because I got the perfect painting idea to go along with my new bathroom.  Check it out below :)

So this is my new toilet and my very large painting to go above it.  The funny thing is it flushes with a button at the top of the tank.  There is a certain way to flush it.  So I told the boys "You push the big silver button for pee, the little blue button for poop, and beware because there is a special hidden sensor that will sound an alarm if pee hits the floor."  Well it kind of worked.  There's no pee in that room because they won't use it now! lol

I really wanted to continue with the comical theme throughout so I found these embroidered letters on hand towels and decide to spell something from the painting.  What better way to make it comical then to pick the word PEE!!

These are just 2 ideas I got from the whole room design as well.  I just started selling these and their such a huge hit.  I have plans for more in my future with different dogs.  Even though I got the idea from my boys I have heard so many stories about male dogs peeing on everything, every inch they can when they go on walks.

Color Moods

Pampered Dachshund

I chose these three images for today because sometimes I will catch myself in color moods.  No matter how many colors I have to choose from I always seem to pick the same ones for a few days.  Sometimes a whole month!  Not sure the reason why yet....  I have painted 382 paintings in 3 and half years and I put them in order of which I painted them.  Well I found these three scattered throughout my book and when looking at them they all match.  One was labeled #35, one #114 and another #198. I seem to wonder what time of year they were painted.  Maybe a season change that brings me into that color mood.  I think all the rooms seem to put off a certain mood other then just me being in a color mood.  Just some odd things I think about.

Missing You

This is the other painting I did that looks like a continuation of Pampered Dachshund.  Same colors, patterns and a cute dog.  I think the only difference is the is no purple.

Blue Vase

This vase is in both the other ones but in a different color.  Although the other two have stripes this one has polka dots.

Just things that make you think.  You know how they say when you pick out a color to paint your house you should also consider what the color means.  For example: Blue is calming, Red is conversation color.  So when an Artist paints do you think the colors they choose are really representing their mood or the mood of the painting?

Cherish the Moments

Lonely Labrador

Do you ever wonder what your dogs are thinking or doing when your gone? Have you ever noticed they are always looking out the window wagging their tail before you even pull up in the driveway as if they can here you a mile away coming?  This is what inspired me to paint this painting.  I have a black lab who is very lazy and sleeps all the time but she is always at the window waiting for us to get home.  She will actually lay on the couch looking out the window.  If I am home she sits on the couch in the back room and warns me if there's a squirrel or deer in the yard.  I think this morning she barked at the deer for an hour.  I think they are used to her because they just look and keep on doing what there doing.  That maybe another painting in my future. :o)

Warm Branches

This is another example of a painting that is in my paintings.  This seems to be a very popular painting.  I think they both fit together because they give tat very warm feel with the colors.  I have sold many of my tree branch paintings in different colors and I'm sure there will be many more in my future.

Thank you for taking the time to read my my blog.  I hope you enjoy hearing my stories behind my paintings.  I create each and everyone from my heart and real life moments that we should all cherish forever.  No matter how big or how small each moment can be. Paintings in my Paintings

Snack Time ~ Play Time
So yesterday on my blog I posted a dog drinking out of the toilet with texture on canvas. Well here is a similar painting but this one is acrylic and ink on watercolor paper. The greatest thing about being an artist is you can experiment to create new things. You just never know what idea can come up next. Below is also another example of painting a painting that's in my paintings. It was done with no texture on canvas. Looking at these makes me want spring to come although I  am not sure I am ready to get rid of winter with only having an inch of snow for the year :( But I am ready for show season!!

Paintings in my Paintings

Just One Lick
Our 95lb lab, Libby does this all the time if her water bowl is not filled in the summer time.  Sometimes she gets caught but if you don't catch her you always know because of the huge water trail she leaves down the hallway.  This is something different I tried using gel medium on canvas.  I think it turned out great! I put it in a really nice off white frame and was planning to keep it for myself but I needed a filler for a show I was doing and sold the original to the first person I told the story to.  I was also asked many times why I don't paint just the paintings that are in my paintings.  Never really thought about me painting just flowers.  So this is where the idea of my tree branch and flowers come from.  They are actually a lot of fun to paint and they sell very quickly.  Yes there will be many more in my future!  Below s the sample from the original above.  This one has texture as well.  It hasn't yet made a new home but I'm sure it will soon :)

Punch of Color

Sleepless Night with the Cat.

                           Kneading a Bed

Have you ever been sleeping and your cat wants to keep you up purring, smudging his wet nose against you face because he wants to be loved on?  My cat does this a lot!  Sometimes for an hour none stop.  It always seems he knows when you are extremely tired.  I try hiding under the covers but he just paws at me and takes his little nose to lift up the blankets to find me.  This is where I got this idea for this painting.  No matter how hard you try to hide they always find away to seek attention at night.  But wouldn't trade them for the world :)

Cat Challenge

The Six Cats

This is a painting I did a few years ago. It's one of my favorites and has even won 2nd Place Award at Montgomery Kiwanis show in Ohio. The funny thing is I accidentally double booked myself that weekend and my husband had to do the show for me. Well he got his photo taken and everything for my win. Guess it was good thing he could feel the feeling of being in my shoes for a day. I have sold many prints of this one but my original is still with me. A good memory to hold on to because it inspired me to do the next painting as well.

50 Cats and a Basset

So one of my son's Ethan was looking at my Six Cats painting and said "Mom, I bet you couldn't do a painting with 50 cats!" I replied, "Yes I can and you can help me!" We spent hours together trying to find the perfect places to hide them. Even hid 2 as the light switches on the lamps. Some of our notes are on the back of them. Many times of losing count was frustrating but it was great quality fun with him. I still have the original and told him when I sell it I will give him a portion of the sale because he worked really hard as well.

Great Idea

LIfe is the perfect canvas, an endless inspiration. ~ Jamie Morath

I have started this blog because I want to share with the world how I view life through my art. I believe everyone is an artist. Art is everywhere. From being a Dentist to what clothes you wear. Even down to the way you walk, talk, or even the way you drink your coffee.

My inspiration comes from my everyday life. I have 4 wonderful boys and a great husband. Along with two crazy, but lovable, cats, a 95lb lab and a 5lb shi-poo diva. I carry my camera with me at all times because you never know what my 8 kids will do next to inspire me for my next painting idea.

Drawing has been my passion since I was a little girl but I didn't do my first in color until I was 17. I actually did not start selling my work until July 2009 and from there it has become a great success. I am now an Award Winning Artist winning 12 awards thus far. But an award is nothing compared to the smile I can put on many faces. That in itself is priceless. :)

I hope you enjoy my paintings as much as I enjoy painting them. Can't wait to share with you all my comical life experiences. ~ Jamie

This painting I have chosen above is a crazy idea I had to be able to sleep in bed with our animals and yet have no more bed hog. I love my animals very much but there are times I wish I could have just a little more foot room. So I had this idea of building a tray over the end of the bed with a comfy doggie bed. I think it would work perfect as long as the dog doesn't roll over!
